1. Measure the furniture and the route
Record each item’s packed dimensions, including feet, handles and any protection. Measure the access door and the narrowest turn as well as the storage space. Adding furniture volume gives only a rough starting estimate: shapes, safe stacking and room for retrieval can change the space you need. Ask the provider to confirm the load against its actual unit dimensions before booking.
2. Decide what needs to remain accessible
If the desk or a box of work equipment will come out before everything else, arrange the load around that plan. Check whether a clear access aisle is permitted and practical. Do not stack pieces in a way that makes retrieval unsafe. A smaller, densely packed space can cost less in rent but be inconvenient if every visit requires removing the whole load.
3. Inspect and dry items before covering
Photograph the condition, check for dampness and allow any cleaned item to dry before packing. Do not seal a wet fabric or piece of furniture and expect the cover to solve the problem. Follow the manufacturer’s storage guidance and ask the facility about the actual environment. Indoor storage is not automatically climate-controlled; a cover alone does not establish protection from condensation or humidity.
4. Dismantle only what is intended to come apart
Use the maker’s instructions for beds, desks and shelving. Label matching parts and keep hardware with the item. Repeated dismantling can affect some furniture, so check whether the connection is designed to be reused. Store large panels with appropriate support and avoid bending or loading them in a way the manufacturer has not permitted. For unusual or valuable pieces, ask a suitable specialist.
5. Choose protection for the finish
Match packaging to upholstery, wood, glass and coated surfaces rather than wrapping every object the same way. Protect corners and keep adhesive tape off finishes unless the manufacturer allows it. Check a cover’s dimensions and intended use. A product sold as waterproof or moisture resistant does not mean the entire packed load or storage service is guaranteed against every source of moisture.
6. Load with stability and retrieval in mind
Keep heavy items in stable positions and respect the provider’s loading instructions. Do not assume furniture can support stacked boxes just because it looks solid. Confirm permitted orientation for a mattress, appliance or delicate object using its own guidance. Ask who will handle awkward items and what equipment or loading help is included. Stop and arrange appropriate help when a load cannot be handled safely.
7. Check the items and the cover accepted
Ask the storage provider about prohibited goods, declarations for unusual items, liability limits and insurance. Separate food, plants, fuels, chemicals or other potentially restricted belongings from the furniture inventory for a specific check. Do not assume that a security feature or an ordinary home contents policy covers stored goods. Read the current terms and ask the insurer or provider about your actual arrangement.
8. Calculate the cost to get it back
Compare the full storage period, minimum billing, collection and return transport, packing, loading and any appointment charges. Confirm the notice needed to end storage and arrange return. Where you will need furniture in stages, price those retrievals too. A useful short-term quote makes the final delivery clear, rather than leaving its cost and timing until you are ready to move in.
Use an estimate, then confirm the fit
EasyStore’s space calculator is a group-brand starting point, not a reservation or a guarantee that an irregular load fits. Record your dimensions, ask about access and compare the packing-material options against each object’s instructions.
